I currently run a slightly out of date version of Nagios Core. (4.4.3) At last check, i have 68 hosts being monitored by my system. The email that went out states you can monitor 50 hosts for free. What will happen if I attempt to update my server?

Also, has Nagios Core been killed off as its own product? I have been using Nagios Core for years to monitor my home network, and I have been singing its praises all i can when i see posts on sites like Reddit, but if the only response i get is "sorry, stop monitoring so many systems" I will no longer be able to support Nagios.

I was able to find some answers on the FAQ. Core still exists. The question still stands how my setup would be handled if i try to upgrade directly from the current version to CSP.

Hi Metalwolf,

There is not a path to upgrade directly to CSP. It's actually a Migration path where you have the two systems in parallel for the time is takes to perform the migration, and then you can power down the Nagios core server, or continue to run them in parallel.

These knowledge base articles goes into more of the specifics on how that process works:
https://support.nagios.com/kb/article/automatic-nagios-core-migration-to-nagios-xi-878.html
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagiosxi/docs/Migrating-From-Nagios-Core-To-Nagios-XI.pdf

I believe you mentioned that you found this information already, but Core is not going away. It will continue to be available as it has been for years.

For the issue of exceeding the 50 host limit - The interface will inform you that you have exceeded your license's host limit and monitoring will be interrupted until you removes a few hosts to get back under the limit for that license.

If you would like to purchase a commercial license for more than 50 nodes, you can do so by visiting www.nagios.com/products/nagios-xi/ or contacting sales@nagios.com
