R2-D2's In Ur Serverz, Monitoring Ur Packetz This has got to be the coolest Nagios hacks I've seen over the years. Some Japanese Nagios users rigged up an R2-D2 DVD projector with Nagios to help visualize system problems. See it in action at Gizmodo.

Nagios 3.0.2 and 2.12 Released
New releases of both Nagios 3.x and 2.x have been made today. Nagios 2.12 includes a fix for an XSS vulnerability discovered by the SUSE Linux team. Nagios 3.0.2 includes the XSS fix, as well as fixes for a number of bugs affecting earlier Nagios 3.x releases. Read the Changelogs for more information and download a new release here.

Nagios 2.11 Released

Nagios 3.0rc3 Released

Nagios 3.0b6 and NDOUtils 1.4b7 Released
The march towards a stable 3.0 release continues! Nagios 3.0b6 has just been released - it includes bug fixes, new macro code that should help with performance in large installations, and some new features discusses at the NETWAYS Nagios Konferenz. Nagios 3.0b4 Released
Nagios 3.0b4 has been released to fix a few bugs present in beta 3. There are also some improvements in the cached host check logic that should help with performance. Check out the Changelog and download it now. NDOUtils 1.4b6 has also been released to work with the latest beta of Nagios and contains a bugfix for segfaults that were occurring in the prior release.

Nagios 3.0b2 had a big bug that affected notifications (they weren't being sent out properly), so I made a new 3.0b3 release today. Check out the Changelog and download it now. NSCA 2.7.2 Released
I just released NSCA 2.7.2 today to fix a possible bug with a multi-process NSCA daemon not accepting new clients and eating CPU due to the untimely death of child processes. The patch was pretty old (over a year), but I missed it until another user brought it to my attention. Get the latest version of NSCA here.

Nagios 3.0a5 Released
A new alpha release of the Nagios 3 code has just made it out. 3.0a5 fixes a few bugs present in 3.0a4 and includes support for soft passive host checks, initial non-UP/OK states, and enhanced timeperiod definitions that should make rotation on-call schedules much easier to define. Check out the Changelog and download it now. NDOUtils 1.4b4 was also released to stay current with internal changes made in Nagios 3.0a5, so grab it if you need it.

Nagios Site Back Up
Arggh! Nothing like admins making changes that break things right before a 3-day holiday weekend and not telling anyone. The Nagios.org site was moved (unknown to me) Saturday morning and left in a broken state. I moved the site to a new provider, so DNS changes should finish propagating by this afternoon.

Open Source, Nagios, and Corporate Responsibility
Will Hurley posted an interesting blog article at TalkBMC titled " Welcome to Opensville, Population Zero. He talks about how some companies build their products on Open Source projects like Nagios, but fail to give back to the respective communities. Very interesting read that should provoke some good discussions.

New Releases: Nagios 2.9, Nagios 3.0a3, and NDOUtils 1.4b3
A couple of new releases today... Nagios 2.9 (stable) was just released to fix a few bugs present in the Nagios 2.8. Nagios 3.0a3 (development) was released as the latest alpha snapshot of the Nagios 3 code. And NDOUtils 1.4b3 was released with support for the latest Nagios 3 alpha code. NRPE 2.8b1 Available For Testing
I just released NRPE 2.8b1 for testing. The only significant changes since version 2.7.1 is the addition of new PDF documentation that describes in detail how NRPE works and how to get it installed. I'd love to hear what people think of the new installation docs, as I want to make it easy for new folks to get started using the addon. Nagios Community Site Open
NagiosCommunity.org has just been launched. It's a new site that will hopefully prove to be useful for Nagios users. The blog will be used to communicate development information more effectively and the wiki is a user-run ecosystem of tutorials, presentations, event information, etc. Check it out and start contributing!

NRPE 2.7 Released
NRPE version 2.7 has just been released. The new release allow the NRPE daemon to continue if non-fatal configuration errors are encountered, and should detect the location of SSL header and library files better. You can download the new release of NRPE here.

NSCA 2.7.1 Released
A bug affecting NSCA versions 2.6 and 2.7 has been fixed with a new 2.7.1 release. The bug prevented the NSCA daemon from working properly in single process mode. The new release can be downloaded here.

I just released a new version of the NDOUtils addon. The 1.4b2 release fixes a few bugs present in beta 1 and includes some sample SQL scripts for querying data. Use caution when using this addon, as it may cause Nagios to hang or segfault. Requires Nagios 2.7 or the latest Nagios 3 pre-alpha CVS code.

NDOUtils 1.4b1 Released
Finally! After many moons I have finally gotten around to fixing some bugs and documenting DB structures for the NDOUtils addon. NDOUtils 1.4b1 (that's beta 1) has been released and can be downloaded here. The new release support both Nagios 2.x and the Nagios 3 alpha CVS code. Treat it as experimental, as a number of things have changed since the 1.3 release.

New NSCA and NRPE Releases
New versions of both the NSCA and NRPE addons have been released. New features in NRPE 2.6 include a more graceful connection shutdown, ability to have timeouts return an UNKNOWN status, and ability to handle dead client connections. NSCA 2.7 fixes a segfault that can occur with a malformed command line. You can download the latest release of both addons here.

Nagios Tutorial at Linux-Kongress
There will be a two day tutorial on network monitoring with Open Source tools during this years Linux-Kongress which takes place in Nürnberg, Germany from Sep 5th to Sep 8th, 2006. Nagios 1.4.1 and 2.3.1 Released
New versions of both the Nagios 1.x and 2.x code branches have been released and contain a fix for another content length (buffer) overflow that could affect the CGIs. Nagios 2.3.1 and (for people running 1.x versions) 1.4.1 can be downloaded here. The Changelog for both releases can be found here. Thanks to Sean Finney and the Debian folks for this patch.

Nagios 2.2 Released
Nagios 2.2 (stable - hopefully) has just been released and can be downloaded here. This release fixes a segfault (introduced in 2.1) which can occur during flapping service notifications, so you should definitely upgrade if you're running Nagios 2.1. The Changelog can be found here.

NRPE 2.5 and NSCA 2.6 Released
New versions of the NRPE (2.5) and NSCA (2.6) addons have been released. The new NRPE release fixes a few bugs in 2.4 and supports an allowed_hosts option in the config file (this was supported in earlier NRPE releases, but later removed). The NSCA release fixes a segfault, and adds support for reloading config via a SIGHUP and chroot jail. You can download both addons here.
